Ponchatoulas Krewe of Pericles parade is held at night, the biggest and final event of the Mardi Gras season. The Krewe of Pericles is determined to provide the citizens of Ponchatoula and the surrounding area a quality New Orleans style parade experience.
Members of the Krewe ride on floats. Each float represents a different part of the theme for the year. The theme is not revealed until shortly before the Ponchatoula parade. In the past, our floats have been constructed by Barth Brothers Productions in New Orleans.
A very large part of a Mardi Gras parade is the marching groups. Dance clubs, High school Marching Bands, Horse riding clubs, and dispersed throughout the Ponchatoula parade are traditional flambeaux, carried by costumed marchers. Finally the venerated grandfather of all the Walking Clubs The Jefferson City Buzzards. Formed in 1890, the Buzzards are an all-male membership Watch for the Buzzards to pull one of their classic pranks: lying on their backs in the street and quivering their arms and legs in the air like dying cockroaches in front of traffic, yelling "whoooops!" One thing to note… The Krewe of Pericles is the only parade on the Northshore where you will see the Buzzards.
